Expert Makeup Advice for Asian Bride-to-Be

Reader Question

Hi, I am a new Asian bride and looking for some nice colors to wear on my big day. What kind of eye shadows, lipstick, or cheek bone colors should I get? I do want to stick out in my pictures. ~~Pa

One of the best lines of cosmetics for Asian women out there is Thi Cosmetics (www.thicosmetics.com) I would highly suggested visiting the site before your big day. As for colors, eye shadow can lean toward a shimmer, using rose, lilac or even fairy silver. As for lips, try a woodsy rose or even crimson which is appropriate for day or evening and with your coloring, will look positively stunning. You may even want to try applying false eyelashes to give your eyes an added pop. On your cheeks, choose a rosy pink and simply swirl the product on the apples of your cheeks for a natural healthy glow. Congratulations!~~Dana

Reader Question

I'm getting married Sept. 1 and would like to know what cleansing and make-up products I need to look flawless and shine-less on my wedding day. I have oily, acne prone skin and have wrinkles on my forehead and under my eyes when I smile. Right now I'm using both of the L'Oreal acne sets and Neutrogena acne/wrinkle cream. Are there other products I should be using? These products don't always keep my skin clear and I'm having problems getting rid of my wrinkles. I can't afford anything expensive either.

I think for the money, L'Oreal and Neutrogena are excellent choices. Make sure you are not over-drying your skin. Don't use an astringent/toner with a lot of alcohol, which will cause your skin to produce more oil as it strips the skin's natural oils. Use a light moisturizer for oily skin, and if you are not already doing so, use a mild exfoliate at least once a week.

As far as wrinkles and lines under your eyes, unfortunately, there just isn't a magic cream to "erase" them, though some companies want you to believe that! The best thing you can do is what you're doing-a good steady skincare regimen. Don't forget to use eye cream morning and night as this will "soften" the appearance of fine lines and reduce, dark circles, puffiness and overnight swelling. Lastly, drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day, which is excellent for hydrating the skin from the inside out.

Regarding makeup, your best bet is to choose a cream-to-powder foundation for oily skin-one that is water based. Also, try brushing cornstarch over your entire face to eliminate shine. Make sure to purchase a compact of translucent powder (no color) for additional shine control all day.

I highly suggest hiring a professional makeup artist for your wedding and always do a trial run a few weeks before your big day.

Best,

Dana
