My quest for the perfect, luscious pout led me to conduct this Elizabeth Arden lipstick review.
Need An Elizabeth Arden Lipstick Review?
So, why Elizabeth Arden you may ask? I wish I could say it's because of Elizabeth Arden's famed history in the world of makeup. After all, since their establishment in 1909, Elizabeth Arden has gone on to become one of the most recognizable and trusted names in the makeup industry.
Truth be told, however, it was nothing that high-brow. It actually had more to do the stunningly beautiful Catherine Zeta Jones than historical context. Catherine Zeta Jones, the face of Elizabeth Arden, is a phenomenally talented actress who always looks incredibly polished and beautiful. I figured it was worth a try to see if I could look half as good!
Reasons to Purchase
All joking aside, I'm a sucker for beautiful things, and the Elizabeth Arden counter at my local department store did not disappoint. There were several reasons why I purchased my Elizabeth Arden lipstick:
- Packaging
The packaging was really great. Encased in a sleek black box with a charming pink underbelly, I literally savored opening the case.
- The Price
At only $22.50US, the price wasn't that bad, especially since I've spent much more at drugstores, only to come home with lipstick shades that look completely different from the appearance of the tube.
- Wide selection of shades.
There's pink and then there's Petal Pink, Sultry Pink, and the shade I finally decided on, Blossom.
- Did I mention Catherine Zeta Jones?
The Actual Application
I'm all ready to try out my brand-new pout, so I snap open my Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Lipstick in Blossom and get ready for my first application. Here are my findings:
- Pleasing Scent
Some lipstick brands entice you to buy their products with promises of a refreshing cooling sensation, or the pleasing hint of peppermint. To be honest, all that's quite nice, but it doesn't make up for it if the shade itself is unappealing. Not so with my Exceptional Lipstick. It has a slight fragrance, but it's a subtle one at that, and happily, it's not an unpleasant smell at all.
- Applies smoothly with lots of shine.
The color goes on seamlessly and doesn't "tug" or pull at the lips. Blossom also had great shine, but not in a teenager, or twenty-something look-at-me kind of way. In fact, it looked downright sophisticated!
- It wears very well.
One of the things I love about this lipstick is that if you choose not to blot your lips, you'll have loads of shine that lasts. If you're like me, however, and prefer a more natural lip look, you can blot away without worry that your lipstick will disappear. In fact, the Exceptional Lipstick left a pleasing stain on my lips that lasted through numerous cups of coffee, playfully kissing my husband on the cheek, and chatting through several phone conversations. As can be expected, it wore a bit thin through lunch, but I'm happy to report that it doesn't leave that ghastly ring around my lips with nary a color between. We may have a winner!
Cons
For the most part, this Elizabeth Arden lipstick review was a very pleasant experience, but as with any product, a few pitfalls can be expected.
This lipstick may smell pretty good, but it certainly doesn't taste very good. If you accidentally lick your lips or taste this lipstick in general, it may not be the most pleasant of experiences. Husbands and boyfriends beware!
Another disadvantage is that once you blot this lipstick, it does tend to feel a bit dry (hence the licking of the lips and the aforementioned taste!). You can combat this relatively easily by prepping your lips with lip balm, or some Vaseline. This, by the way, is a good idea in general, no matter the lipstick brand you prefer.
A Final Word
All in all, the advantages, namely its shine, easy-wear, and flattering shades, greatly outweigh the few disadvantages. This is a great product and I heartily recommend it for anyone looking for a new shade, or for someone who likes to experiment with their lip color. I may not be anywhere closer to being Catherine Zeta Jones's double, but I am definitely pleased with my latest results!
